Questions & Answers

The questions families ask us most.

If you do not find what you need here, we are a message away on the contact page.

Getting started
Someone has just died. Where do I begin?

First, if this is a medical emergency, call 911. When you are ready, go straight to Part 5: The Final Hours and After. It walks you through exactly who to call and what to gather, step by step, in the order you need it. Everything else can wait.

Do I have to take the parts in order?

No. Each of the eight parts stands on its own. Walking them in order works beautifully, but you can begin wherever your life is pointing today: the paperwork in Part 4, the conversation in Part 1, or anywhere else.

How long does it take? Is there a schedule?

It is entirely self-paced. There are no quizzes, no deadlines, and no falling behind. Each page is short, about thirty seconds to read, and your place is saved automatically, so you can close it for an hour or a month and return exactly where you left off.

Who is this for?

Expat families living full time or part of the year anywhere in Mexico, in any of four situations: caring for someone who is declining, getting organized so your family is never left guessing, facing your own diagnosis, or finding your way after a loss has already happened. Wherever you are standing, there is a door here for you.

I am healthy. Is this too early?

It is exactly the right time. Almost everything in the practical section is easier to do now, calmly, than later. The Life File takes a weekend to start. The Notario letter is one appointment. Doing it while nothing is wrong is the entire point.

Is this only about dying?

No. Part Four is emergency planning for people who are perfectly well. What happens if you have an accident or a medical emergency in Mexico, which number to call, which ambulance comes, what your insurance actually covers here, and the single page that goes in your glove box so a first responder knows your blood type and your medications. Many people buy it for that section alone and read the rest later.

I am the caregiver, not the patient. Is there anything here for me?

Part Six is written to you and nobody else. What the exhaustion does to your body, why friends stop calling, how to ask for help that actually helps, and the relief that comes at the end along with the guilt right behind it. Most people in your position tell us it was the part they did not know they needed.

What’s included
What do I actually get?

Lifetime access to all eight parts, forty-four videos with Lu, and forty-three printable pages. That includes Your Master Life File, The Emergency Readiness Guide, The First 24 Hours Emergency Checklist, Child Directives, the Local Designee guide, Advance Directives in Mexico, The Legacy of Your Words, The Solace Journal, and a full glossary of the Mexican legal and medical terms you will come across. Everything is yours to print as often as you need.

When can I access it?

Everything in the online course and printable library is available the moment you join.

What’s the difference between the two options?

Both include lifetime access to all eight online parts, forty-four videos, and every printable PDF. The Digital and Printed bundle adds two physical spiral-bound books shipped to your door: the complete 270-page Adios Amigos main guide (bound so it lies flat while you write in it) plus a separate four-page spiral-bound Emergency Readiness Guide for quick access. Free tracked shipping across Mexico, the US, and Canada is included.

Access & account
How do I log in?

There is no password to remember. Go to the access page, enter your email, and we send you a secure six-digit code. Enter it, and you are in.

Can I use it on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It works on any device, and your place is saved across all of them.

I purchased it but can’t get in.

Head to the access page and request a fresh code. If you are still stuck, email us from the contact page and we will get you in.

Payment, shipping & refunds
What is your refund policy?

Because the digital pages are immediately downloadable, digital access is non-refundable once your account has been used. We will gladly replace any printed guide that arrives damaged. Full terms are on the Refunds page.

How long does the printed guide take to arrive, and what does shipping cost?

Your books are printed to order, and free tracked shipping is included for all orders in Mexico, the US, and Canada. Orders to Mexico ship via tracked expedited courier (never standard mail) and typically arrive in 9 to 12 business days. Standard tracked shipping to the US and Canada takes 11 to 18 business days, with optional faster delivery upgrades available at checkout. Your digital access begins immediately, so you can start while your books are on the way.

About the content
Lu is based in Baja California Sur. Does this guide work if I live in another part of Mexico?

Yes. While Lu lives and works in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, the Adios Amigos Guide is built for expat households across all of Mexico. Whether you are in Lake Chapala, San Miguel de Allende, Puerto Vallarta, Mérida, Oaxaca, or anywhere else, the core realities of navigating a medical emergency, empowering a Local Designee with a Notario, working with consulates, and preparing your Life File are the same, and the worksheets are designed for you to record the specific contacts and protocols for your local area.

Is this medical or legal advice?

No. This is educational, drawn from Lu’s lifetime of experience. It is not a substitute for professional medical, legal, or financial advice. Always confirm decisions with qualified local professionals.

Is the Mexico information current and accurate?

It reflects Lu’s experience and common practice across Mexico. Laws, fees, and procedures vary from state to state and change over time, so always verify the specifics for your own area with a local Notario or attorney before you rely on them. The guide is written to teach you what to expect and what to ask, rather than to hand you a single answer that may not apply where you live.

Who is Lu?

Lu Pearson is a retired Registered Nurse and Certified End-of-Life Doula based in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, who has spent a lifetime sitting beside the dying and the families who love them. You can read more on the About page.
